Bio: Wallace G. Jeffrey who was born in 1922 and spent much of his youth in South Dakota where he and his brothers lived with relatives until their parents returned from working various jobs. Later the family moved to Minnesota and eventually to Manhattan, Kansas. Jeffrey attended Woodrow Wilson School in Manhattan, Kansas. He describes growing up and living in the Depression. After he completed the 7th grade, his parents went on the road with a carnival and removed their children school. When the carnival closed, Wallace, his brothers and father picked corn. Often, they returned to Manhattan in the winter months. In November, 1942 he was drafted into the Army. His wife Geneva and son Gerry moved in with her parents. Jeffery describes in detail his training, trip across the Atlantic Ocean, landing on Omaha Beach, liberating Paris, encounters with the Germans, Buckenwald death camp and the Battle of the Bulge. After being discharged from the Army, he returned to Manhattan, Kansas worked for Kansas, Power & Light.
