Bio: Raised in Randolph, Kansas. Harold Friedrich would start a family in Randoph with his wife Minnie Friedrich. He was employed by J.W. Holmstrom of Randoph, Kansas from January 1935 to December 1942, where he drove 1.5 ton truck from elevator to farm and from farms to elevator. Hauling cttle, feed, and seeds. He also worked as a clerk in the store selling feeds and seeds to customers. He would join the Army on December 27, 1942. After basic training Friedrich trained as an MP (Military Police Officer) and would serve with distinction. His basic duties where described as follows in his discharge papers:
Cpl. Friedrich served with the 170th Military Police Company in the Mediterranean Theater for 28 months. He Patroled a 15 mile area enforcing military laws, and regulations. Arresting soldiers who were drunk, Absent with-out Leave, and in fights. Patroled are in radio car.
Friedrich's unit was on duty in North Africa (Egypt) and later in Sicily and Italy. While serving in North Africa, Cpl. Friedrich was placed in charge of a unit assigned to escort President Roosevelt, Prime Minister Churchill and Premier Stalin during there trip through Egypt and during their conferrence inTeheran, Iran. He was given a special commendation for his performance and that of his men.
