Van Doren recieves the Silver Star posthumously
(source Manhattan Mercury, November 21, 1944).
In this article it is mistakenly reported that Van
Doren wasn't married.

Place of Birth:  Graham Co., Kansas. Went to high school in Stockton, Kansas.

Father and Mother’s Names:   Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Van Doren of 611 Nth 11th St, Manhattan, Kansas.

Spouse and Children's Names:  Edith C. Coolbaugh (Wife) and Neal Richard Van Doren (Son).

Division/Company/Unit info:  489th AAA Weapon Battery Battalion CAC, 4th Armored Division.

Riley Connection:  Moved to Manhattan around 1930 and worked as an auto mechanic.  He lived at 402 Laramie St.  He later attended Kansas State College where he studied Mechanical Engineering.

Date of Death (and Age):  September 27, 1944 (age 33), died of wounds (DOW).

Place of Death:  Near Pont le Gilbert, France.

Awards:  Silver Star (posthumously).

Grave Location:  Re-interred from France to Bennington Cemetery, Bennington, Kansas in 1949.
