Bio: Roger was born on October 12, 1914 in Portland, Oregon to Roscoe F. "Ross" Ramey and Bernice (Hurst) Ramey. By 1920, his father was regarded as one of the most valuable men connected with the Portland office of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. His father had moved the family to Manhattan, Kansas by 1925 and they were living at 508 Nth Juliette St. Roger's father was still working in the insurance business. Roger was in the household of his grandparents, Frank and Dora Ramey, in 1930. They lived at 805 Fremont St. in Manhattan. Young Roger was a sales clerk in a drug store. By 1935, Roger was married and living in Denver, Co. He worked for Republic Drug Co. In 1940, Roger was still in Denver, Co with his wife, Beth, and two daughters, Sue and Judith. Roger was still with the Republic Drug Co. managing the drugstore. It was on October 31, 1940 when Roger registered for the draft in Denver. At that time he was 6' tall, brown eyes, black hair and weighed 155 lbs. Not long after registering for the Draft, Roger entered the Army from Lincoln, Nebraska. Roger became a 2nd Lt. attached to the 465th AAA (Antiaircraft Artillery) , AW (Automatic Weapons) Battalion. His Unit landed in Normandy, France at the end of July in 1944. His Unit fought towards the French city of Mortain, which was in control of the Germans, during Operation Lüttich. Operation Lüttich was a code name given to a German counter-attack during the Battle of Normandy, which took place around the American positions near Mortain from August 7 to 13 of 1944. It is in this heated battle that 2nd Lt. Roger Dean Ramey perished.
Roger's widow, Beth, was living in Lincoln, Ne. at the time of his death.
